Considerations
Sep. 29th, 2011 06:57 pmLeo Tolstoy, in addition to writing gigantic literary tomes, was also a curious chap in that he was a Christian Anarchist/Pacifist.
I've been reading his work entitled "The Kingdom of God Is Within You", and he lays out what I think is a reasonably strong case against the idea of religious integration/approval of State wars.
Fundamentally, Tolstoy asserts that levying force against others is incompatible with the message of Jesus. Thus the Christian should be non-resistant to others, refuse military service, and refuse government service, since all of these involve violent resistance, contrary to the example of Christ and his apostles.
